Smallville Returns
One of my favourite shows on TV is being broadcast on Starworld, every Thursday night at 8pm. (+8 GMT). Its the pilot episode where we see Smallville, (POP 25001. I saw the billboard...kinda like product placement ) being bombarded by asteroids. In the midst of the asteroids is a birth pod, occupied by none other than Earth's greatest Superhero. This is the episode to watch! I feel nostalgic watching the premier again. It felt like being introduced to the whole mythology all over again.
I was irked when they cut Clark's growing up phase though. Fast Forward to the present, Clark is a geek who has no idea that he is invulnerable however very aware of his super speed. How is it possible that he doesn't asks his parents why he can run faster than a speeding bullet but awestruck when he survives a car crash?
However I digress. Smallville has an excellent cast if actors who are very talented and good looking. I was hooked from the beginning when Tom Welling gazed wistfully at Krisin Kreuk, wishing that he could be with her. (Lana has a boyfriend though. Someone from the football team. A jock and a cheerleader - ideal couples, at least in High School society). Sam Jones III and Aliston Mack play chums who help Clark investigate bizzare occurences in Smallville. Michael Rosenbaum shaved his head to act as would be villain, Lex Luthor. Annette 'O' Toole and John Schneider are convincing as protective parents.
Everyone knows that Clark eventually grows up to be Superman but it is interesting to note that he said that he wanted to join the football team in order to avoid being a total loser in school. Who knew that the man of steel had girl problems, suffered the ignominy of being a social outcast, bearing secrets that threaten to overwhelm and had low self esteem? Clark is all powerful but oh so humble...the perfect hero indeed.
Look out! Smallville's back to entertain fans who are eagerly anticipating the fourth season.
